There was a joy in the faces of these illustrated men that felt counter to the anti-gay culture that I was growing up in.

I went home and researched his work further, delving deeper into his life story. Following the Second World War, when he was conscripted into the Finnish army, he continued his studies in advertising, before joining the international advertising firm McCann Erickson in the s as art director for the Helsinki division.
