Characters who are a part of LGBTQIA+ recognition in entertainment media. LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation for " Lesbian (L), Gay (G), Bisexual (B), Transgender (T), Queer (Q), Intersex (I), Asexual/Aromantic (A) and other identities (+) ". Arcane's queer representation is purposefully written to be subtle. Words like gay and lesbian aren't even mentioned because there's no reason for them to exist in the world of Runeterra.

The result is a striking difference from the LGBTQ+ representation from companies like Disney. The Arcane series is not dominantly an LGBT series, however, it does indicate the common tropes of an early romance kickstarting in the first season of the series. Arcane establishes a world that confusingly borrows queer aesthetics and dabbles in queer coding, while never fully committing to the existence of LGBTQIA+ characters.

Piltover is the gilded. Arcane has done the complete opposite by creating an array of female characters that are all different in appearance, motivation, and have both strengths and weaknesses. Women can be good, evil, strong, weak, masculine, or feminine just like male characters. For LGBT representation you might be asking "What LGBT representation?.

The best way I can describe this show is that it is like a montage of all the best cut scenes in a video game. The graphics and fluid motions and possibly impossible and fantastical acrobatics and fight maneuvers are all reminiscent of a well-made modern video game. True to my first impressions, Arcane is visually stunning.

The show explores overarching and high level relationships between cities and governing parties, while also delving into interpersonal relationships in a way that stomps at your heartstrings, starting right off the bat with the opening scene being of a young girl, Vi, guiding her little sister through the aftermath of a battle where their parents lay slain. We flash forward to when the girls are teenagers on a romp of a heist mission, so it really runs the gambit as far as emotions go, and every beat hits more soundly than the last, often in unexpected ways.

Same as Vi. So the show is broken into three acts, and each act is three episodes long. And as the first three episodes went on, I thought I knew the kind of show I was watching.

I thought I knew what path we were on. I thought I knew, in broad strokes, what the plot of the next two arcs would be like. I thought I knew. But I sure did not. While having a penchant for sci-fi, Valerie will watch anything that promises a good story, and especially if that good story is queer. By far my favorite show of , possibly my favorite show ever. It is very nearly perfect in every aspect of what goes in to making an animated show come to life imo. Amanda Overton was the executive story director and specifically wrote most of episode five though she emphasizes, repeatedly, that every episode is a team effort.

The folks at Fortiche absolutely should get some of the credit for making it That Gay! Also: the tag on ao3 has, of course, absolutely exploded.
