This was a show from a few years back. The late Chris Kanyon had made a few appearances on the Stern show and had recently came "out of the closet" and he felt this played a role in him being released by the WWE. Supposedly the Stern show tried to get Vince or HHH to talk with Chris on the air about his release but they were in Japan on business.
Kanyon was pretty gracious to Flair for the most part, but he was getting irritated as it sounded like Flair was denigrating his career the longer the interview went on. It was definitely worth listening too. IP: Logged. The couple of times that I met him he seemed like a nice enough guy. It wouldn't surprise me that he was fired for being gay. Not even slightly. So you not only have to win that fight, you have to win all the future fights that person could want to have with you.
DreamIceCold Member Member Doesn't make sense that they would keep him employed for an extended period of time, then one day go He was there for nearly 3 years, didn't get much TV time but he had a role to play. It was simple, Kanyon was used in OVW and was often down there working with the younger guys to help them with their craft. What also didn't help Kanyon long term there was the fact he was out on an injury from November 01 to May ' Nothing wrong with this role, could he have been used better?

Perhaps they intended to use him better but he went out injured a third time before eventually being released in So three years, a good chunk of it spent on the shelf, highly doubt he was released due to his sexual orientation, 'cause if that was the case he wouldn't of lasted as long as he did. Bret Hart thought so, too. He could have, and should have, been used better in WWE.
But you could say that for Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, and a lot of other guys around the same time period. Bnicholas Member Member Don't agree at all. I don't know nearly enough about the backstage stuff to have an opinion on Kanyon's homosexuality getting him let go or not, but I I always thought he was a very good worker, particularly in an era where doing stuff that was innovative and stood out was applauded, as opposed to today's WWE where they prefer a fairly standard match look, augmnented by a couple signature moves.
Gov't Mule Member Member Commish Member Member I don't think he was fired for being gay either. That's not to say the WWE has been particular modern in their attitude to gays and lesbians.
